▶ Your Answer :
Both
the author of the reading passage and the lecturer discuss whether exploring
Mars by humans is available or not. The author of the passage puts forwards
three possible reasons, whereas the speaker dismisses each of them, giving
sufficient reasons.
First of all, the author argues that
because dust particles in Mars are toxic and too tiny, it will negatively
affect both astronauts and spaceships. Thus, humans will not be able to travel
Mars. However, the lecturer contends that the new sound technology can overcome
this barrier. High-pitch sound can remove dust from the spaceship’s solar
panels and the crew’s spacesuits. Therefore, dust particles will not affect
humans and spaceships in Mars.
Second, the writer of the passage
maintains that psychological issues will hinder humans to explore Mars. This is
because astronauts would have to be isolated from people and the earth for a
long time. However, the speaker casts doubt on this point by arguing that an
extensive training for astronauts includes for this issues. Moreover,
astronauts in the spaceship can have counseling from psychological experts via
recorded videos.
Finally, the reading passage points
out that financial problem also an important thing which should not be ignored.
Exploring Mars by humans does not bring benefits directly. However, the
professor refutes this point by asserting that many different countries can
work together for humans to go to Mars. The international space station is a
good example for this. Even though it does not seem to be beneficial at first,
it will be worthwhile to invest in a long term.
