▶ Your Answer :
The reading passage contends that nuclear
energy is more efficient and inexhaustible than conventional energy. On the
other hand, the professor contradicts to the points made about nuclear energy.
First, the writer states that utilizing nuclear
energy is cost-effective since fossil fuels, such the price as oil and gas, will
increase each year due to its limited amount. However, the speaker says that
even though the basic ingredient of nuclear energy is cheap, it costs more than
conventional one. This is because the expense for building plants for nuclear
energy is too expensive and some plants in Canada actually failed to complete
their nuclear plants due to its high expenses.
Second, the author maintains that the nuclear
power is environmentally friendly because it does not contribute on global warming.
In contrast, the lecturer claims that it is not true since it causes thermal pollution
in marine ecosystem. To be specific, to get cool effect, many nuclear plants
use enormous water and release the heated water to oceans or rivers so that it
produces many bad effect to marine creatures.
Finally, the reading passage states that
the nuclear energy wastes can be disposed without difficulty since its remnant
are so small enough to bury underground safety. On the contrary, the professor
says that the problem is increased radioactivity of nuclear wastes after the fission
process. To explain, the radioactivity lead to human to various health issues,
even to death when people are exposed to it only for a moment. For now, most of
the wastes are just stored in power plants with this reason. |
