Undoubtedly, learning diverse subjects plays a significant role in younger students’ lives. Some people think that younger students should learn different subjects from one teacher, while others think that they should learn different subjects from different teachers. Both sides may have their own reasons to support their views. If I were asked to choose one, I would say that younger students benefit more from learning different subjects from different teachers.
To begin with, when students aged 11 or under learn different subjects from different teachers, they can improve their academic performance. It enables students to learn specialized contents of each subject, because the teachers are specialized in the subjects respectively. It tends to make the young students understand the subjects more easily. For example, my youngest brother did poorly in elementary school. He learned every subject from one teacher, so he did not have interests in all subjects. However, he changed little by little after transferring from his school to the other one. There were many teachers who were specialized in different subjects. So, he could learn different subjects from different teachers. After transferring the school, he started to have interests in each subject, because the teachers of diverse subjects were professional in the subjects. The teachers explain the contents of the subjects more easily and professionally. By doing so, he started to maintain a good behavior by raising his grade in school. And he was able to excel all throughout elementary school and received straight A’s in his classes. Without this specialized learning, he would not increase his academic performance.
In addition, learning diverse subjects from one teacher can make young students obtain biased information. Teachers have their own personal views, beliefs, and values. When their personal thoughts are conveyed to young students, they are likely to form a skewed idea of each subject. For example, when I was in elementary school, I learned about the war between Japan and China in 19th century. I thought Japan and China have faults in this war, because my teachers in elementary schools taught me that Japan and China did many cruel things each other equally. However, after entering in high school, I learned that the Japan did much more cruel things in the war. So, I realized that the teacher in elementary school taught a biased view of the war, and he did not so specialized in the history of the war, because he was teaching every subject, not specialized in one subjects. If I learned from the teachers who are specialized in certain subject, I would not have a skewed idea about the history.
All things considered, I strongly believe that the advantages of learning different subjects from different teachers far outweigh those of learning different subjects from one teacher. All in all, the importance of learning from teachers who are specialized in each subject cannot be overestimated in the pursuit of the academic success of young students.
