▶ Your Answer : People are bound to make numerous decisions in their course of lives. Some people argue that it is better for one to make a significant decision alone. They believe that other people will only distract one's mind with unhelpful pieces of advice. However, people should refrain from making crucial decisions on their own since they can gain more wisdom and certainty from others.
First of all, people can make wiser decisions listening to various opinions from others. Not all people have experiences in many different areas, and some may have to make a decision in a totally new field. Consulting with experts can play a significant role in reaching the most sensible conclusion. For example, graduating from the middle school, I had to choose which kind of high school I would apply for. Because I was deeply immersed in drawing cartoons, I wanted to go to a special-purpose high school for future animators instead of a normal high school. After discussing with my parents and teachers, however, I decided to attend a normal high school where I could explore more career options. This decision turned out to be a valid one as I eventually changed my dream thanks to the more diverse subjects and experiences from the school I chose. Likewise, people who are inexperienced will benefit more from making a decision after consulting with those who are more experienced.
Moreover, people can feel more certain about their decisions when they have supporters for their choices. In most cases, people are not sure about their decisions. They need supporters before making a solid decision. A study found that people need at least one person to champion their choice in order to make a final decision. The study experimented a group of people who were about to buy a car. All the subjects were hesitant to make a final decision. However, once they found someone to support their decision, they immediately purchased a car. As this study shows, people need other people to back up their choices when they are making an important one.
To sum up, we need others' help if we want to make important decisions with wisdom and certainty. Young people can make a wiser decision with great advice from older people with more experiences; people make quicker judgments by having someone who will side with their choice. After all, our decisions are subject to be intertwined by those around us. |
