▶ Your Answer :
In
this current society, it is debatable whether the human mind is always superior
to machines. I disagree with the statement in that there are examples machines
show their superiority over people. Furthermore, I believe machines are not
only tools of human minds.
Granted,
some people may argue that the human mind outweighs machines because only human
beings can involve in creative works. Machines can function best in logical
tasks such as calculations and statistics. However, they cannot produce
creative items as human beings do. Take Vincent van Gogh for example. Gogh went
the extra miles to pint a myriad of art works with vivid colors, rough beauty,
and emotional honesty. His paintings were not readily imitated in that the
masterpieces have unique characteristics and a product of his creativity.
Although machines and computers can work in precisely and timely manner, they
are incapable of creative tasks as Vincent van Gogh did. Therefore, it is plausible
that human brains are better than machines due to its ability to involve in
creative works.
However,
the human mind is not superior to machines. Garry Kasprov is a chess prodigy
and has won over most prominent chess players. Kasprov played a chess game with
IBM Deep Blue computer in 1997. The computer programmed into millions of possibilities
and calculated all the possibilities at an astronomical rate. As a result, Deep
Blue defeated Kasprov. In the case of probability and mathematical game, the
computer proved its superiority over a person’s brain. Thus, machines can
sometimes be more effective than human brains.
In
addition, machines are often beyond mere tools of human mind. In this current
era, machines such as computers and television readily control spirits of human
beings. For example, many people are stuck in surfing internet and entertain
themselves by being dependent on the computer. They spend hours to the end by
reading slapdash articles and watching movies online. That sometimes leads them
to idle their important duties such as study and work. This example shows how
machines can control human’s mind easily. In this case, it is far-fetched to
argue that machines are only tools of human mind. It is rather a formidable
tool to occupy human mind.
In
conclusion, machines are not always inferior to human mind as the examples
above prove. Moreover, machines have become more powerful tools that can
influence human’s minds and behaviors nowadays. Therefore, people in this
contemporary society need to be more cautious about the impact of machines on
their minds.
