▶ Your Answer :
Should society prior to an individual? The statement builds upon the long-held binary of individual versus collective, that is to say, society. As society grows and the individual's interests are becoming more complicated, the individual's responsibility in society has become a more disputed subject than ever. In this statement, the author takes on the position that individuals have a responsibility to obey or disobey based on their own judgment. My deeply-held conviction is that, although the judgment by individuals sometimes can bring harmful influence to society, every individual in a society has a responsibility to act and make a voice against unjust laws based on their own conception of justice.
Naturally, I concede that delegating all powers which decide whether what is just or unjust to individuals can breed negative influence because people's conception of justice can not ideally fall into line and interpretations of justice would differ by the positions, backgrounds, and interests of the individual. So the conflict will arise among individuals and groups with the discordant opinion. Furthermore, the conflict of interests or opinions, in other words, trouble may generate undesirable influence upon society. However, conversely, I would place emphasis on the needs of conflict which is derived from the individual's difference of conception of justice. Imagine a society that every individual in a society just follow, while they do not make a judgment on whether it is right or wrong, the legally arranged way. this society may appear healthy on the surface but it overlooks essential nutrient to grow itself upon genuine prosperity. that nutrient is, ironically, conflict among the individuals for growth. Our society has developed by the process of solving a conflict that comes from the individuals who made their voice. As a Korean, I want to give an example that occurred in Korea recently. My country had an impeachment of president Park in 2017. Without considering whether president Park committed the illegal act which judged by Court of the day, the public of my country made a decision that she had committed the unjust act and held candlelight rallies which assert an impeachment of president Park. Ultimately they had accomplished their purpose by making their voice. On this wise, the individuals who resist unjustness, even if that is a law, is a sine qua non to foam a just society. In conclusion, from the ancient time to present day people have foamed the societies while the different conception of justice which is held by people in the society exist each in our own way. Obviously, that difference embeds a risk factor that may lead society to a negative consequence. Nevertheless, we should not lose sight of an important fact that there is always the risk on the way of success. as seen in the given example, our society must accompany acting individuals in order to become a just society more than ever. |
