▶ Your Answer :
In
our society, it is debatable whether the ability of humans to think for
themselves will surely deteriorate as people are more dependent on technology
to solve issues. Although the statement may seem convincing, I do not agree in
that the technology takes a toll on humans' ability to think for themselves.
Admittedly,
advance of the technology can have a harmful effect on humans by depriving of
the opportunities for human to think for themselves because it can take their
jobs. In a recent Go competition between Sedol Lee, a representative of Go
player among humans, and the AlphaGo, a computer program created by Google
DeepMind, people adamantly expected that the human will surely defeat AlphaGo.
However, it turned out that AlphaGo actually has a superior ability to play Go
than human beings. Many people were shocked to watch the game, and they soon
have feared that the technology would not only take their jobs but also
deteriorate ability to think for themselves. If the technology takes most of
human jobs that have traditionally required human's intelligence, the human no
longer needs to think for themselves but just do what the technology orders.
However,
it is also required to look at the positive aspect that the technology has
provided to us. Thanks to the technology development, people have nurtured
their imaginations. Until Wright Brothers invented an airplane with strong
engine and propellers, no one believed that human could fly. When they realized
that the technology can enable their dreams come true, people made a huge
progress in our society by actively utilizing it. A few hundred years later
after the invention, people developed spaceship and Neil Armstrong walked on
the moon for the first time. Had not been for the developed technology, people
would not have dreamed they could explore the universe later on. In this sense,
technology does not deteriorate the ability of humans to think for themselves
but triggered humans to imagine and dream big.
In
summary, although many worries that it could take a toll on people by depriving
of their jobs, the technology has improved the society by triggering humans to
be more imaginative than ever. Thus, we have to go the extra mile to take
advantages of technology to develop the ability to think for ourselves.
