2. after all: 결국
I didn’t have a drink after all. (결국 술은 마시지 않았다)
Because, after all, the cover is what your clients see first. (여러분의 고객이 처음 보게 되는 것은 결국 표지니까요)
3. all of a sudden: 갑자기, 돌연히
I got dizzy all of a sudden. (갑자기 현기증이 났다)
She seemed to have been around forever, and then, all of a sudden, there she was.
(그녀는 평생 평범한 여배우로 남아있을 것 같았는데 어느 날 갑자기 대스타가 되었다.)
4. all along: 처음부터, 줄곧
I knew it all along. (처음부터 그걸 알고 있었다)
I found that I had been mistaken all along. (나는 줄곧 잘못 생각했음을 깨달았다)
5. as a matter of fact: 실은, 사실을 말하면
As a matter of fact, I didn’t even cal her up. (실은 그녀에게 전화조차 하지 않았다)
*o∙fact처럼 f가 하나의 단어처럼 발음된다.
As a matter of fact, I went to his office a couple of days ago. (사실, 며칠 전에 병원으로 갔었어.)
6. as far as: ~하는 한, ~까지
He was absent because of his cold as far as I know. (내가 아는 한 그는 감기 때문에 결석했다)
It's all stuff and nonsense as far as I am concerned.
(내가 보는 한 이 책은 넌센스다.)
7. as to: ~에 관해서
As to the trip, we’ll discuss it later. (여행에 관해서는 나중에 논의하자)
There is some doubt as to whether he will be elected.
(그가 당선될지 어떨지 다소 불확실하다.)
8. ask out: 데이트를 청하다
I’ll ask her out. (그녀에게 데이트를 신청해야지)
I asked
(낸시에게 데이트 신청을 했다가 거절 당했어)
9. at all: 조금도, 전혀
It doesn’t bother me at all. (그건 조금도 걱정이 안 된다)
The bone is not affected at all.(뼈에는 이상이 없다.)
10. at (the) least: 최소한, 적어도
It’s going to cost $2000 or $3000 at least. (최소한 2000달러 내지 3000달러는 들 거다)
* a·least처럼 at의 t음이 들리지 않는다.
I'm still at the airport. My flight's been delayed at least another two hours.
(나 아직 공항에 있어요. 비행기가 앞으로도 두 시간은 더 연착될 거래요.)
