WOMAN (British): Bristol Cultural Centre. This is Clarice speaking.
MAN (British): Good afternoon, Clarice. I have a question. Is your
centre the one hosting the Cultural Festival this weekend?
WOMAN: That’s correct.
MAN: Great. It sounds very interesting. But what
exactly happens at the festival? I’m not sure I understand what it means.
WOMAN: Well, basically, the festival is a time to
celebrate the different cultural heritages that make up our city.
MAN: You mean the foreign cultures?
WOMAN: Not just what we consider foreign, but also
different cultures native to the United Kingdom. You know, we have Welsh,
Scottish, and Irish people living here, but they also make up our city’s cultural fabric.
MAN: I suppose you’re right.
WOMAN: But of course we have people from Africa, the
Caribbean, Asia, the Middle East…and even European Gypsies. So, you know, the
festival will include everyone.
MAN: Brilliant. I know there is a large Indian
population in my neighbourhood, but I don’t know much about their culture.
WOMAN: Right.
MAN: Um, how is this set up? Are there information
booths, or…?
WOMAN: There are some booths for cultural groups or
organisations, but mostly there will be food stalls, dance performances and
organised activities.
MAN: Organised activities?
WOMAN: For example, there is a Senegalese group that’s
going to be teaching people basket weaving. And I believe that there’s also a Greek community centre that will
offer lessons in a traditional dance.
MAN: What fun that will be!
WOMAN: Yep.
MAN: And how many groups will be represented at the
event?
WOMAN: Oh, let’s see… Around 40, it seems.
MAN: This is definitely something I don’t want to miss.
MAN: For this event, do I need to register?
WOMAN: There isn’t a registration per say, but you do
need to purchase a ticket in advance. There are a limited number of them, so
the event may sell out.
MAN: Where can I purchase my ticket, then?
WOMAN: There are two ways. First, you can buy them online
through our website. But if you prefer, you can also visit our office downtown
to pick them up in person.
MAN: I’m downtown for work anyway. What hours are you
open?
WOMAN: From 9 to 5.
MAN: And how much are the tickets?
WOMAN: If you are a regular adult, £22. Students can get
a ticket for £15, and senior citizens and children for £10.
MAN: My wife and I will go, so I’ll need two regular
adult tickets. Can I pay by credit card? I’m a bit short on cash right now.
WOMAN: Absolutely. Tell you what, why don’t I reserve a
couple of tickets for you, and then you can pick them up anytime between now
and the festival.
MAN: Brilliant! Do you need my credit card number?
WOMAN: No, but I do need your full name.
MAN: Harry Hendricks.
WOMAN: Can you spell the last name?
MAN: H-E-N-D-R-I-C-K-S.
WOMAN: Thank you. I’ll have the tickets in an envelope
for you at the front desk, and you can just pay for them when you pick them up.
MAN: Wonderful. Many thanks.
