Part 1

What did you study in history lessons when you were at school?

When I was a student, I studied modern history from ancient Korean history according to the curriculum set by the Korean government. And I studied world history as an auxiliary subject.

저는 학창시절에 한국 정부가 정한 교육과정에 따라 한국 고대사부터 현대사를 공부했습니다. 그리고 보조 과목으로 세계사를 공부했습니다.

Did you enjoy studying history at school [Why/ Why not?]

When I was a student, I enjoyed the game Age of Empire. This game is a game set in real history. Thanks to this game, I became interested in real history, and as a result, history classes at school were fun.

나는 학생이었던 시절, 에이지 오브 엠파이어라는 게임을 즐겼다. 이 게임은 실제 역사를 배경으로 만들어진 게임이다. 이 게임 덕분에 실제 역사에도 흥미를 갖게 되었고 그 결과 학교에서의 역사 수업은 즐거웠다.

How often do you watch TV programmes about history now? [why/why not]

I don't really watch programs about history now. I have to prioritize what I'm doing as an office worker now, and it makes me angry that many people, including politicians, are distorting history.

지금은 역사에 관한 프로그램을 잘 보지 않는다. 지금은 직장인으로서 하고 있는 일을 우선시 해야하며, 정치인들을 포함한 많은 사람들이 역사를 왜곡하고 있는 모습이 나를 화나게 만든다.

What period in history would you like to learn more about? [why]

If I learn history, I want to learn the history of Japan in the 16th century. Because at that time, Joseon, one of Korea's dynastic countries, was ignoring Japan. However, the envoy from Joseon left a message jealous of jealousy that Japan has become became a richer country than Joseon. Therefore, I want to learn more because I wonder how rich Japan became at that time.

나는 역사를 배운다면 16세기의 일본의 역사를 배우고 싶다. 왜냐하면 그 때 당시 한국의 왕조 국가 중 하나 인 조선은 일본을 무시하고 있었다. 하지만 조선에서 파견 된 사신은 일본이 조선보다 더 부유한 국가가 된 것을 질투하는 글을 남겼다. 그렇기에 당시의 일본이 어느 정도의 부유한 국가가 되었는지 궁금하여 더 배우고 싶다.

Part 2

Describe the neighborhood you live in when you were a child

You should say,

Where in your town/city the neighborhood was

What kind of people lived there

What it was like to live in this neighborhood

And explain whether you would like to live in this neighborhood in the future

I don't remember well, but I think I spent my childhood in Suwon, Korea. I was living on the outskirts of Suwon, and if I remember correctly, my parents did herding. Few people lived around, but I remember my parents doing the ranch with my relatives.

The good thing about living there is was that I saw many animals. I was really happy to see them grow up while raising goats, cows, and dogs. And I remember that the environment was clean and very good for health.But if you ask me to live in the place where I spent my childhood in Suwon, I will definitely refuse. Because I definitely liked the place when I was young, but now life in the city is much more fun. Moreover, there are many bugs on the ranch, and now I hate bugs. 

And I will not go back there in the future because free life in a foreign country is making me happier now than in Korea.

잘 기억은 안 나지만 어린 시절을 한국의 수원에서 보낸 것 같아요. 저는 수원 외곽에 살고 있었는데, 제 기억이 맞다면 부모님이 목축업을 하셨습니다. 주변에 사는 사람은 거의 없었지만, 부모님이 친척들과 함께 목장을 하셨던 기억이 납니다.

그 곳에서 살아서 좋았던 점이라면 동물들을 많이 보았다라는 것이다. 염소, 소, 개를 키우면서 이들이 성장하는 것을 보는 것이 정말 기뻤다. 그리고 환경도 깨끗하여서 건강에도 매우 좋았던 것으로 나는 기억하고 있다.

하지만 나에게 그 수원에 있는 내 어린 시절을 보낸 곳에서 살라고 한다면 나는 반드시 거부할 것이다. 왜냐하면 어린 시절에는 분명히 그 곳이 좋았지만 지금은 도시에서의 생활이 훨씬 재미있다. 더욱이 목장은 벌레들이 많으며, 지금의 나는 벌레들을 혐오한다. 

그리고 현재는 한국 보다는 외국에서의 자유로운 생활이 나를 더욱 행복하게 하고 있기 때문에 미래에 내가 그 곳으로 돌아갈 일은 없을 것이다.

Neighbours

What sort of things can neighbours do to help each other?

How well do people generally know their neighbours in your country?

How important do you think it is to have good neighbours?

Basically, I think neighbors are very precious. Because my neighbor lives around me, I can rely on him when I'm in trouble. And if the neighbors are in the same business as me, they can help each other. Therefore, if I know my neighbor well, I will be able to help each other them more easily by getting close to each other. As a reflection of this, there is a saying in Korea that neighbors living close to each other are better than distant relatives. I don't know much about my neighbor because we are so busy now, but if I have a chance, I want to be close to my neighbor.

나는 기본적으로 이웃은 매우 소중한 존재라고 생각합니다. 왜냐하면 이웃은 내 주변에 살고 있기에 내가 곤란할 때 의지할 수 있습니다. 그리고 이웃이 나와 같은 일에 종사한다면 서로를 도와줄 수 있습니다. 그렇기에 내가 만약 내 이웃을 잘 안다면 서로 친밀해져서 더욱 쉽게 서로를 도와줄 수 있을 것입니다. 이를 반영하듯이 한국에는 먼 친척보다 가까이 사는 이웃이 더 낫다 라는 말이 있습니다. 지금은 서로가 너무 바쁘기에 내 이웃에 대하여 잘 모르지만 그래도 기회가 된다면 지금의 이웃과 친하게 지내고 싶다.

Facilities in cities

Which facilities are most important to people living in cities?

How does shopping in small local shops differ from shopping in large city centre shops?

Do you think that children should always go to the school nearest to where they live?

I think these three are the most important facilities, whether in the city or in the countryside, where food can be obtained, hospitals, and government facilities that solve complaints. This is because food, the supermarkets, provides the necessary ingredients for living. The hospital examines my health and advises me to live a healthier life. And I live in a country with a government, so I think it's important to have a government-related building like this in order to live as citizens. As for luxury brand shopping such as Rolex or Gucci, I wish it was in a region other than my area. With these high-end facilities, many people gather. However, the area is very noisy and there is a high possibility of accidents.  I want the area where I live to be quiet, and if I want to go shopping for high-end brands, I think I can move to the area where these facilities are located.

도시이든 시골이든 가장 중요한 시설은 식량을 얻을 수 있는 곳과 병원, 그리고 민원을 해결해주는 정부 시설, 이 3 곳이 가장 중요하다고 생각합니다. 식량, 즉 슈퍼 마켓은 살아가는데 필요한 식재료를 제공해기 때문입니다. 병원은 나의 건강을 검진해주며 더욱 건강하게 살 수 있도록 조언해줍니다. 그리고 저는 정부가 있는 나라에서 살고 있기에 시민으로서 살아가기 위해서는 이러한 정부 관련 건물이 있는 것이 중요하다고 생각합니다. 롤렉스 혹은 구찌와 같은 고급 브랜드 쇼핑에 대해서는 내가 사는 지역이 아닌 다른 지역에 있었으면 좋겠다. 이러한 고급 시설이 있으면 사람들이 많이 모인다. 하지만 이 지역은 굉장히 시끄럽고 사고가 많이 일어날 가능성이 높다.  내가 사는 지역은 조용했으면 좋겠고, 고급 브랜드 쇼핑을 가고 싶다면 내가 이러한 시설이 있는 지역으로 이동하면 된다고 생각한다.
