Transportation
•
What’s
the most popular means of transportation in your hometown?
- The most popular means of
transportation is the a subway. We have a very effective and efficient a subway
system. Particularly, the subway system is are weaving Seoul perfectly where I
live, so people can go anywhere by subways Besides, as it always arrives and
departs on time, passengers don’t need to worry about being late. For these
reason, subways became the most popular one in Korea.
•
Can
you compare the advantage of planes and trains?
- Yes, I can. Firstly, in
terms of speed, planes are much faster than trains. To take Korea for example,
we can go to Busan from Seoul within 1 hour by flights whereas it takes about
2~3hours by express railways. Secondly, the distance we can travel by each
means is different. If we use flights, we are able to go a far-off destinations
which are located in overseas. But trains have a limit of distance which they can
travel, especially in the Korean Peninsula. There are no train lines that can bring
people to abroad here. Lastly, a fare is a factor I would like to tell. An airfare is
usually far more expensive than a rail fare. When it comes to a fare, train has
an advantage compared to flight.
•
How
often do you take buses?
- Actually, I rarely take
buses because they don’t arrive on time. Every time I intended to take a bus, I
had to wait for a long time. Sometimes I was almost late for appointments. So,
except for when it is unavoidable, I always take subways.
•
Is
driving to work popular in your country?
- Not really, because of a huge
traffic. Especially during rush hours, the traffic is terribly heavy. In Korea,
it’s a time-wasting way to commute by car drive. People might as well use public
transportations such as subways or buses rather than drive their own cars.
•
Would
you ride bikes to work in the future?
- No, I don’t think so. I don’t
ride bikes. I learned how to ride bikes just a year ago, and I found it difficult
to get be used to riding. I usually feel afraid fear when I ride bikes, so I would never
ride a bike to work – I think I will ride only when I go for a hike.
•
Do
you prefer public transportation or private transportation?
- I prefer public
transportation. This is why I don’t drive as I don’t have my own car first, and
I think it is much more convenient way to use public transportation in Seoul. There
is a perfect transit network which weaves the whole city and as integrated–transfer
pay system. I can go anywhere in Seoul by subways or buses, and most of all,
when I transfer from one to another means, all I have to do is just swiping a
transportation card on the pay-box in subways or buses. It’s fairly
comfortable.
•
Do
you think people will drive more in the future?
- I don’t think so. More and
more people are giving concerns concerning about the traffic problem and lack of parking areas.
It is becoming more difficult to drive a car in a big cities. In fact, an
automobile manufacturer in Korea has experienced a significant decrease in automobile
sales recently. I think the number of car ownership and drivers will be reduced
continuously.
•
What
will become the most popular means of transportation in Korea?
- Oh, I have thought about it
much, and from my perspective, it is personal mobility which will become the
most popular means in the close future. Many kinds of personal mobility devices
such as electric kick-board or electric bicycle are becoming common among average
people. Many people consider they are eco-friendly as well as trendy. It can be
a good alternatives to respond to the traffic problem in the city as well. For
these reasons, I think personal mobility will be popular soon.
