In the modern
society, English is commonly used all over the countries, so people find it
important to learn English. There are, however, some arguments pertaining to
the ways of studying English. Some people think studying English in an
English-speaking country improves the ability most, but also think that there are other ways to learn English as well.
Considering my English study experience, I totally agree with the statement.
On the one hand, it is helpful to study English
in the countries whose first language is English. It is the best way to improve
English because there are much more chances to use English when people are
surrounded by English speaking environments. In
addition, they can learn more useful expressions or linguistic skills from
natives. Take my experience as an example. Before I came to Australia, I
studied English in Korea and it improved my English to some extent, but I
learned a lot more from work or my local friends in Australia.
On the other hand, it is not really necessary
to go to an English-speaking country to learn English. There are numerous other
ways to learn English without going abroad. Firstly, people can study English
at school. These days, schools in most countries offer quality English class so
that their students can learn English which is necessary to improve their
international competitiveness. I studied English at school in Korea, and it was
helpful especially in learning grammar. Secondly, there are also ways to learn
from natives in their hometown. Some English academies hire talented native
English teachers to satisfy the demands of their students. Moreover, some
people study English talking with natives on the phone or through Skype.

In conclusion, I believe people can improve
their English most by studying in English-speaking countries, but many other
ways to learn English also exist.
