In morden life, it is true that a number of individuals work as a frelance rather than a member of a company or institution. There are several reasons why this trend is commom these days, and some drawbacks of being working freely.
First of all, two main reasons can be mentioned. The development of technology is the most important cause. As it became common to use the high quality of technology, working out of a organisation is possible now. For example, the interenet and equipment such as a lap top can be used everywhere. There is no longer a reason why people have to work in limited places for a company. Another reason is that many people want to have flexible time. Especially, young generations prefer to spend more time outside of their work while enjoying leisure time, compared to old generation who only work hard, thus, young people tend to work only when they want or need. For instance, one of my friends traveled aborad for a year, and when she spent all money she had, she worked as a freelance illustrator in some countries.
However, even though a lot of people tend to be self-employed, there are also some disadvantages of this trend. Firstly, a social ability can worsen. People who are self-employed usually spend most time alone, so they less communicate with other colleagues. This situation leads to the lack of the social ability. In workplace, not only we do our jobs, but also socialise with coworkers. Furthermore, responsibility cannot be felt as there is no one who manage tasks and deadlines. The freelances should organasie everything themselves such as work schedules or conferences, and it is too easy to postphone these work because nobody forces them to work harder.
In conclusion, as technology has been developed, and many people seek some values apart from work, it has become popular to be self-employed, but the drawbacks of this trend like the loss of the social ability and responsibility should be recognised. |
