The line chart demonstrates South Korea’s employment rates in three different fields from 1981 to 2011. Overall, the proportion of employment rate in services was all-time high, constantly ascending throughout 30-year period, while agriculture’s rate was always at the lowest position except for 1981. Industry’s rate fluctuated a little, yet it remained still compared to the others. It is clear that the gap between three different proportions widened significantly as time went by. Looking at the graph more closely, in 1981, the employment rate of agriculture was higher than industry by approximately 5 percent point, not knowing their positions would be changed between 1981 and 1986. Industry’s proportion went up constantly from 1981, reaching its peak at around 35 percent, even though it fell since then. During 1991 and 2001, the proportion of services skyrocketed, jumping roughly from 42 percent to 60 percent. At the last 5 years from the chart, the employment rate of industry plummeted to almost 5 percent, as if previous downs were not enough for itself. In addition to that, services’ rate peaked at roughly 70 percent, and the proportion of agriculture descended by around 10 percent since 1991. |
