<Topic> The crime
rate nowadays is decreasing compared to the past due to advance technology
which can prevent and solve crime. To what
extent do you agree? |

These days, lots
of people carry their smartphones and are able to call police officers whenever
they encounter mugging or looting. However, while these people protect
themselves from unpleasant crime, there are some people say that crimes are
not able to be foreseeable and technologies are not the right answer to resolve
the problems. I would like to opine that I agree with the latter point of
view. Firstly, there
are innumerable criminal offenses can be happened behind the surveillance camera
and portable electronic devices, for example, rape, child abuse and family violence
which are severe but suspects commit these crimes in private ways and no one
can know what is going on behind the door. Unfortunately, there are no evidences
that the rates of these crimes have diminished. Secondly, there is a question
that ‘crimes are preventable’? A number of suspects who have been held into
the custody in Korea, a country has the fastest internet in the world and over
90% of people own smartphones, did illegal behaviors alongside the contemporary
devices. Furthermore,
although some offences are reported by taking evident video and contact to the
guards, I do not consider that undeveloped countries are also able to have
these benefits. Since the majority of people in the nations do not have smartphones
or surveillance cameras at the entrance of their home, in addition, owing to a
social system and atmosphere, the offences’ report ratio might be low and
sometimes policemen do not care about that. For example, I have a Korean
friend who used to live in Guatemala, South America, she told me if Korean people
need to go to the bank or local supermarkets, they should hire a local person
who go errands since foreigners are easy to be targeted by robbers. She also
added, as these crimes are normally happened in people’s daily lives, nobody care
about it. To sum up, despite
advanced human technologies, it is hard to say that all nations on the Earth enjoy
those advantages and the crime rate has fell down. Therefore, I firmly believe
that enhanced technologies are not able to block suspects intentions and be
solution of crimes. |
