With spread of information in various means,
people these days are able to remotely gain experience and knowledge through
out books and many digital medias. Some believe that we no longer have to
travel in order to explore different cultures, in this essay, I , conversely, would
like to emphasize that real life expedition will be still necessary.
Interactions with local communities are
also part of crucial lessons. To put it other way, whereas books and documentaries
deliver superficial data in one direction, through expedition, travelers can mutually
communicate to locals by exploring intrinsic values they obtain. A good
illustration of this is, instead of watching travel films, one who follows the
way people eat and live other places is more likely to understand cultures
deeply while has opportunities to openly discuss on a certain topic with people.
Moreover, learning diverse cultures involves
using not only our eyes searching for information but also different body parts
to feel actual environment. Even though understanding pre-existing facts are
crucial, by sniffing the food that we taste or listening to the noise from the
street can enrich travelers’ experience while making long-lasting memories. For example,
one research shows that our memory stays longer as much as we sense through our
body parts. Tourists, consequently, can also benefit beyond which printed
copies and videos represent.
To conclude, when it comes to studying cultures,
even though medias provide extensive distance learning chances, I surely believe
that real life expedition provides far more valuable lessons not only because it
remains as a memory for a longer period, but also omnidirectional communication
channels with local cultures. 감사합니다. |
