People have divided views on whether high schools should make art as a compulsory course for students or not. In my opinion, high school students need to take an art subject because it helps them relieve stress from heavy studying schedules and get higher academic achievement through art subject.
First of all, most students in high school have many compulsory subjects to study to enter university, which take a lot of energy and a break from them. In other words, there is no enough time for students to take a rest from a hard schedule in school. By introducing art as a must-taking course, they can draw and appreciate beautiful artworks to deal with their stress from studying.
Not only that, art also helps them achieve better educational results since it is closely related to culture and history. Art is a complex subject and has long history, playing a role as an assistant class to understand related subjects such as history. To be specific, learning about the picture of the specific historical event in art class will enhance students’ background knowledge about history. Recent research has shown that the students who take a mandatory art course in high school get better marks on history tests.
In conclusion, people may think that art is not an essential subject to achieve high school students’ goal, entering a better university. However, with a compulsory art class, students can release their stress of hard studying and gain practical knowledge, which contributes to better school achievement. Therefore, I think high school should create a mandatory art subject for students.
