Some people support the believe that
volunteering work for a community should be mandatory in high school programs.
To others, unpaid community service is useless for students in terms of time
and labor because there is no reward for it. In my opinion, I strongly agree
with the former.
The most outstanding benefit of compulsory volunteering
work is that secondary school ages would be able to do new experience beyond
the subjects they need to study. They would teach young children, or help the
disable in their community. By doing so, they would have a chance to think
about their future plan: For example, they want to be a teacher, to be a social
worker or to be something else.
Secondly, while doing obligatory unpaid
community service, high school kids would learn a spirit of sharing, an
essential virtue for their life. They know that human beings have their own strengths
and weaknesses. However, they do not know how to share. Therefore, by making
them share their strengths with the less capable people, they would come to
realize that sharing is rewarding.
The last point I would like to make is that
children at secondary schools could extend their social relationship through
the compulsory community service. There are always not enough teachers in
schools to teach the students to be prepared for everything. On the contrary,
in community, there are many people from all different social and economic
levels. With this reason, required compulsory unpaid community service will
make the students find extensive social networks for their future.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that
community service without payment is required for the high school students as
the following reasons: For new experience, for their moral education and for
the extension for relationship. |
