As clearly seen from the above charts, Britain's total population was just over 50,000,000 at the beginning of the period. This figure increased gradually from almost 500,000,000 to just below 70,000,000 by 2040. It's expected to reach to greatest in 2040. In terms of Britain's population by age group, the population is divided into three age groups : 0-14, 15-64 and 65 years old and above. The percentage of 15-64 years old age group accounted for around 50% in the beginning of the period. It rose significantly to just over 60% by 2010. However, it had a downward trend, overtaking 2010. The second largest age group is between 0 to 14 years old. The proportion of this groups made up 45% in 1960 but it will dramatically decrease to approximately 23% by 2040. It is expected to halved from beginning to the end. In constant, the group 65 years old and above had an upward trend, overtaking 1980. It's almost three times higher than the figure in 1960.
