Today, an increasing number of people live in foreign countries to learn a new language and culture. In this regard, it is often argued that it is encouraging to stay the country until they master their learning. However, I disagree with this statement. In this essay, I will discuss reasons for this.
Studying abroad costs learners a lot of money. Most of them go to language schools to learn what they want more effectively from experienced teachers, but courses there usually take a year at minimum to graduate. As a result, they have to take a responsibility to make money to pay for it on their own or receive from parents in home countries. Whether they have abilities to succeed early or not, they are forced to pay the same amount as any other students, and this will be financial disadvantages when they are back at home.
Also, homesick will be another problem of students away from home. This can be serious especially for young ones. Most students leave their countries when they are younger because at such an age they can more naturally learn whatever they try without much efforts. However, being exposed to an unfamiliar environment so early can be overwhelming for the little children. For them, people around them will be a crowd, and language they speak will be a noise they make. They will miss more their friends and families who laughed and cried for the same reason.
In conclusion, I disagree with the statement that students should learn a foreign language away from home countries. This is because its accompanying emotional and financial costs are something that they do not have to pay at their age. |
