The line chart illustrates the number of people living in three distinct counties such as Columbia, Yamhill, and Washington in the U.S over the period of six decades starting from 1940 to 2000. At first glance, it is clear that there were steady growths in the population of all three counties during the period. Especially, the increase in this figure was strong in the case of Washington. This county had the largest number of American in the year 1940 at around 75,000, which was more than twice as much as the population in Yamhill and Columbia at about 30 and 20 thousands respectively. Washington's population rose rapidly to over 120,000 by 1970 and doubled over the second half of the period in question. Secondly, the number of people in Columbia and Yamhill also increased slightly between 1940 and 1970 by nearly 50% from 30,000 to just under 45,000. However, during the following 30 years, the figures of both counties rose dramatically and reached at approximately 90,000 in Yamhill and 75,000 in Columbia. To sum up, although growths in the population were gradual across the counties for sixty years, Washington was still ranked first of the population in the last year.
