Many people begin
to consider schools as dispensable because they can study and learn most
subjects by themselves without the process of formal education. As a result, some
people strongly argue that home schooling and internet class can replace the existing
education system. However, I disagree with the standpoint because people have
been overlooking that schools have been playing a critical role in many aspects
such as sociality and emotional development. In this essay, I will elucidate the
importance that schools have in education, and I will suggest my standpoint on
the issue.
It is unreasonable
that some people have evaluated schools only from knowledge perspective, since public
educational institutions have been making big contributions to the development
of social respects. For instance, those who study alone at home can have difficulty
in cooperating with others and acquiring communication skills because they are
not accustomed to the situations that they should collaborate and compromise
with classmates. On the other hand, young people can naturally learn how to
interact with other people by living together in school. Furthermore, schools
could provide students with a plenty of opportunity to meet various types of
people, which can increase understanding about diversity. In addition, schools as
a small society can make people experience directly or indirectly the community
in which they will live and it can help them raise social adaptability.
Besides, students
can improve or modify their ideas and share fascinating insights through
discussion and debate with classmates, especially when they face different
viewpoints that they have never thought about. Moreover, they can find and
develop their hidden aptitudes by receiving help from teachers. However, studying
alone or internet classes can never offer these advantages of the communicative
method to students. In other words, some people are losing the chances to
expand their horizon of knowledge and experience by abandoning the traditional
ways of educations.
In conclusion, I firmly
believe that schools have more merits than demerits and they have been conduced
toward nurturing talents necessary for our community. In addition, I personally
think that it is reasonable to reform the disadvantages and modernize the outdated parts rather than
putting schools aside in teaching and education.
