▶ Your Answer : In recent years, there has been a lot of discussion about travellers' responsibility for protecting the culture and nature of the country they visit. Regarding this, some assert that it cannot be travellers' share because they are only visitors for a short period of time. However, I strongly disagree with this idea as an increasing number of tourists produce a large amount of litters and bring in new culture to other countries. In this essay, I will support my opinion with examples.
First of all, as travel industry has significantly expanded on account of development in transport, the number of tourists has been rocketing. This means that people are able to visit remote locations they could not explore in the past. Understandably, the untouched lands need to build accommodation and entertainment facilities and as a result, destroy the environment. That is to say, there would be more rubbish than before due to having more population in the region and serious reduction in the variety of wildlife. Thus, it is clear that travellers can have negative effects on the visiting countries.
Furthermore, traditional culture of locals would be considerably affected. That is to say, new modern culture and materials can often result in changing or even making local custom and tradition disappear. In my personal experience, I have visited a local market in the nothern area of Vietnam called BacHa and seen so many souvenir shops selling artificial fabrics that once used to be homemade ones. They no longer make the beautiful fabric at home for their family but buy the cheap artificial ones made in a factory. As the example illustrates, it can be seen that it is very difficult for native people to preserve their own culture when new culture keeps coming in.
To sum up, whereas some people think that travellers are irresponsible for protecting the culture and nature of visiting country. I believe that they have a role to play. This is because they would produce more litters and change the local custom and tradtion just by staying for a few days or weeks. Personally, I think tourists should try to not waste natural sources or throw away too much rubbish and be careful to respect the country's native culture. |
