It has been stated that investment of the government on arts
is wasteful. Some assert that the focus of the government’s investment should
be on satisfying common citizens' practical needs such as developing public
services. However, I completely think that the investment of the government
should distribute in art as well.
To begin with, it is certain that art plays an extremely
important role in preservation of national identity. The government has the
duty to protect and preserve traditional forms of art from being disappeared
since those are essential in reinforced identity of county and patriotism among
population. For instance, the Korean government put forth exertion to recover a
forgotten ethnic song of Korean people, which is called Arirang in1970s.
Through this effort, it allowed Korean citizens to think the significance of
nationality over. Likewise, investing national budget on art will be of great
benefit to having stronger national identity and patriotic minds among citizens.
On the top of that, supporting prospective artist exerts a
critical influence on a chance of promoting nations to the globe. There are
numerous cases that the contribution of artists to their nations is considerably
influential in an optimistic way. To illustrate, as the popularity of K-pop is
increasingly growing, a great number of K-pop fans attempt to visit Korea as
their vacations, which means increased number of tourist in South Korea.
Moreover, it is fair to say that the Western media has started to recognize the
cultural impact of K-pop in account of prominent Korean artists. In this sense,
it is beneficial for nations to support artists with investment.
To sum up, the benefit of government’s investment on art is
to enhance national identity with patriotism and to promote nation to the
world. In this regard, I believe that the government should invest on art. |
