There are some individuals who argue that art ought to
be a compulsory class for high school students. I am on the same page with this
argument since art class can teach creativity and also help some students to
find their artistic talent.
First, art has great power in nurturing creativity.
There have been numerous scientific studies that found strong correlation
between an art class and students’ improved creativity. With the inexorable
advance in technology, many jobs are being replaced by robots or artificial
intelligence and officials of both public and private sectors are calling out
schools to prepare students for this new environment. Among many things they
stress, creativity is the one that can distinguishes humans from those technology or artificial
intelligence, so its importance can’t be doubted. Therefore, since its school’s
job to prepare students for their future, it is imperative for schools to offer
art as a compulsory class.
Second, if art was put into curriculums of school, it
would help some students to find their artistic talent more easily. Many
students with artistic talent struggle in school because they are not given
proper opportunities to explore and find their talent. This is mainly because
most of school’s curriculums are mainly focused on intrinsic subjects in school
system such as math, science and language. This needs to be changed by offering
art as a compulsory class so that there would be no tragedy of students with
artistic talent never realizing his or her potential talent. Therefore, since compulsory
art class can offer students with artistic talents to find their potential
talent, I adamantly believe that such class should be implemented.
In sum, since benefits of a compulsory art class for
students in terms of harnessing their creativity and helping them find their
potential artistic talents, the class should be offered in school system
mandatorily.
