There is a heated debate about the validity of homework
among people these days. While some argue that homework is an invaluable thing
to miss because it teaches important lessons about how to meet a deadline, others
assert that homework does more harm than good. Before rendering my own opinion,
I would like to delve in to the both arguments.
Some educational experts strongly hold to the view
that making children do homework has many benefits. Among those benefits,
homework can teach students how to meet a deadline. When students do homework,
regardless of age, it is imperative for students them to meet a deadline in order not
to not fail a class. Evidently, meeting a deadline is not an easy task. However,
since its importance is undoubtedly clear, school ought to train students to
finish their task in a timely manner by giving them homework on a regular basis.
Even though children may struggle at first, they will learn how to finish their
work in time in efficient ways which will definitely be conducive to students
in the long term. Therefore, they say, homework should be given by schools to
make children become more responsible and academically achieving.
On the other hand, there are also people who claim
that homework does more harm than good (여기는 논제의 표현을 그대로 옮긴 거라 웬만하면 바꿔주시는 게 좋습니다.). They fear that students might struggle
too much while they try to complete their homework and such stress can lead them
to forsake study all together. This is an absolutely undesirable ramification
that everybody who are in charge of taking care of children, parents, teachers
and school administration, wants to avoid. Furthermore, some recent researches
by numerous universities and private institutions showed that homework doesn’t does not (줄임말을 사용하지 말아주세요.) necessarily improve students’ academic achievement. Based on these findings,
these individuals maintain that schools must stop adhering to old dogma that
children should be given regular assignments in school environment.
After looking into two arguments, I reckon (구어체에 가까운 표현이라 웬만하면 대체해주세요~) school
administration should stick to its tradition by giving homework to students.
Even though it is true that students can be stressed by homework, it is
school’s job the job of schools to take care and support struggling children so that some students
don’t do not fall behind their peers. Furthermore, the recent studies quoted by
opposition side were not conclusive. In conclusion, homework should be given to
students.
