Q. In spite of the advances made in agriculture, many people around the wrold still go hungry. Why is this the case? What can be done about this problem?
As there has been a huge development in technology, it is often said agriculture sector is also having benefits. However, many people around the world are still struggling with the hunger. This essay will discuss about why this is happening and put forward a solution for this issue.
To begin with, the reason why people still go hungry despite of agricultural development is that primary sector is prone to be affected by the weather. Natural disasters or severe weather such as drought or heavy rainfall bring destruction of crops so that it ruins farming of a whole year. Ethiopia is known to be representative example of this. They asked for money and food from other countries through WHO several years ago due to disruption of farming after natural disaster. Therefore, the death rate as a reason of starving was high in that year.
However, this problem can be solved by making an international criteria and principle for distributing food between countries. Countries that have high level of crops margin can donate them to other countries that experience huge damage by unexpected weather or nature. Since the world can not only reduce leftovers but also solve hunger problems, it can be a reasonable solution. In addition, this donation would not cause another problem such as government corruption since food or crop is not monetary stuffs.
To conclude, the reason of many people struggling with starving in spite of agricultural advance can be explained by its weakness to the weather. Nevertheless, the international rules can solve it by distributing crops and food.
