Some people think that free public transport all the time is the best
solution to decrease the amount of traffic on road. Personally, I think that
free public transport is a good way, however, more specific approaches are
needed.
The most salient part that people should consider is that free public
transport is a suitable measure to decrease traffic congestion. However, the
government should pay a huge amount of taxes if it is proposed regardless of conditions.
Especially, during night or holidays, the amount of traffic is not serious, even
in good condition; thus, the suggestion at all times that should be severe
waste of taxes would not be accepted to the public. Because of this, more
specific ways based on time, period and targets like only weekdays, commute
time, and for seniors or handicapped are required to make this rule.
Another important consideration is that people take a personal car to
move a long distance place. It is true that transferring by own car is still
the easiest and the most effective way to take. That is the reason why most
residents who are living in suburb of cities or rural areas tend to drive their
car to go to their office where is usually in crowded cities. To solve this
problem, more frequent and acceptable commute bus or trans scheme should be
offered for commuters. Additionally, installing express train lines linked between
major cities and small towns should be compatible to mitigate traffic
congestion.
In conclusion, I think that even though free public transport is a good
idea to solve traffic problems, it would be a tremendous waste of taxes to
offer all the time. Therefore, limited time and period, and other measures such
as extended commute bus and installing express train should be also considered.
