In modern society, many young people use a
variety of social media sites to share their lives with others. Some companies
use applicants’ posts for judging in recruit process. In my opinion, I strongly
believe that the action should be prevented for the following reasons.
On the one hand, there is a persuasive
argument that considering socal media sites of appicants’ is helpful to get further
abilities or character of them. When it comes to job interview, interviewers
are given only a few minutes and chances to look into their candidates. These
are not enough to understand their attitude and traits such as how well they
can get along with co-workers and profesional works. For instance, one
candidate who applies a construction company majored in architecture have a lot
of posts that he or she enjoyed sports very often. In that case, employer can
get a trust of one’s strength through the photos. Therefore, looking up their
social network sites is one of the effective methods when they decide new employees.
Nevertheless, it is obvious that taking
candidates’ social media sites into account for hiring decision is an action
that has to be prohibited. First and foremost, working performance abilities
are not directly related with the skills that people commonly use for managing
their personal sites such as posting photos, tagging replies and decorating it.
For example, writing a report for consequences of the work is totally different
with just leaving diaries on the web. Secondly, even though the applicants have
various range of friends over the world and quite upper levels of writing
ability, employers shouldn’t judge them with those informal references because
it could be brought unfair or wrong results between people who do have it or
not. Last but not least, peeking their
sites without permission is an action to infringe the privacy of individuals.
In conclusion, although considering social
media sites can be useful to understand candidates’ traits, I think this
behavior is banned for those reasons I mentioned above.
