Despite the improvement of technology in
agriculture and its results in higher outcomes, some people still suffer from
the hunger. There are several reasons for this and solutions to tackle the
problem, which will be discussed in this essay.
There are some reasons to explain the issue
regarding the famine in certain areas, while the outcome from agriculture
has improved a lot in the past years. First of all, local politics and its
unfair societal structure is one of the reasons. In other words, the dictatorship
or unbalanced power to distribute the resources within one country can make people
suffer from the starvation even they produce more agricultural products. On top
of that, from an international relations perspective, unfair trade terms
between countries is another reason to explain the famine in a developed
agricultural environment. Although the total outcome from agriculture
improves, trades are still required. However, international trade terms often
reflect more powerful countries’ benefits, which leads to an imbalance in the distribution
of the products.
Some solutions can be taken to tackle this
issue. Firstly, local politics should be improved in order to allocate the
product fairly as well as to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor.
Since the allocation matters than the increase of total pie, the starvation can
be reduced if the local political system functions fairly. Furthermore, trade terms
for poorer countries should be protected. As trade terms often impact on the imported
goods’ prices, protection for poorer countries can make agricultural products
more affordable.
To conclude, it seems to me that local and
international politics are key to solve the famine in modern society, since the distribution of resources is more important than the increase in agricultural products.
