The given charts show the ups and downs of sold Fairtrad-labelled coffee
and bananas sold in five European nations in 1999 and 2004. In general, both
products experienced increases in their sales from 1999 to 2004 except small
number of cases.
To
be specific, Fairtrade-labelled coffee showed growth in their sales among all
five nations. Especially, the UK’s figure surged from 1.5 million euros
EUR in the given period. After the UK, Switzerland’s figure also doubled from 3
million EUR to 6 million EUR. Other three remaining nation’s coffee sales also
expanded.
With
regard to Bananas, Belgium’s figure showed greatest proportion increase among
five nations. The sales of Bananas in Belgium in 1999 was only 0.6 million EUR
and has increased to 4 million EUR in 2004 which is more than six times bigger
than the figure of 1999. In terms of the increased volume, Switzerland’s figure
has increased from 15 million EUR to 47 million EUR by positioning Switzerland
as biggest customer of Fairtrade-labelled Banana in the given period. Meanwhile However,
Sweden and Denmark’s Banana sales has decreased to the almost half during the same
period.
