Many children today are exposed to violent
videogames and TV programs.
How harmful is this?
What can be done to fight this problem?
It is true that young people spend time playing videogames and watching TV programs more than ever before. I think that there are several ways to tackle this problem.
Violent video games and TV shows can have negative impacts on children development. Firstly, young people are likely to act what they see and listen and it can be problematic in school. Even though some children are not interested in videogames and TV programs, if they see other friends doing violent actions, they might want to mock their friends for fun. In addition, children may not know how severe and bad the games and TV shows are and they can easily watch and play violent games repetitively. This can lead them to be unable to recognize crimes when they become adults.
I believe that there are possible measures to be taken for the frequent exposure of videogames and TV programs in children. Firstly, appropriate and repetitive education in school must be needed to encourage children know the danger of violence. They might not be able to be aware of this if they are not learnt. For example, if they are given a weekly lesson in school to learn the result in violence or swear words, they will not want to follow other friends who act violently. Secondly, by limiting ages to video or console games for teenagers, this problem can lessen in a way. Finally, changing TV program schedule which can be violent for children is another good option. If young people are exposed to violent TV program less frequently because they have to sleep or watch TV with their parents, the frequency of children’s watching TV shows will be reduced and the problems caused by it also disappeared.
In conclusion, it is obvious that more and more children
are playing videogames and watching violent TV shows but, there are some possible
solutions for it.
