Recently, museums and art galleries are
playing an important role in modern society. However, there is controversy over
whether they should focus on their own nation’s work and relics rather than
those of other countries. I totally agree with the idea that we should pay
attention to our nation’s artifacts more than global things for several
reasons. To begin, I believe that their own
countries’ treasures should be preserved by priority in museums because
learning the nation’s culture is more critical for education than global
culture. The museums and art galleries can give first-hand experience to children
who want to learn their nation’s culture and history, experiences which cannot
be acquired by other curriculum provided in school. For example, children in
Korea can get a further understanding about the lives of their ancestors while
watching the artifacts or paintings of the ancient period. As a result, this
allows for children to have a sense of belongingness and kinship, developing identity
and even patriotism for their country. Another thing to consider is that the
lack of space to conserve our valuable relics. Due to the increasing demand for
modern facilities like hospitals, theaters, and schools, our society is
struggling to build museums and galleries which might be less interesting for
people. Limited area means that it would be difficult to exhibit a wide range
of traditional works. Let’s imagine that these places are full of other
countries’ numerous works. In this case, when we excavate our ancient treasures
afterward, we might have difficulty in searching for appropriate places to keep
our relics because of the lack of museums.
In conclusion, I agree with the idea
that museums and art galleries should emphasize our nation’s works instead of
global things in the consideration of the educational value and the lack of
space. |
