There exist two
conflicting opinions as to whether we should break down historical buildings in
order to make a space for building modern ones. While some people agree with
the idea of demolishing the obsolete architectures for new ones, I personally
believe that historical buildings do not deserve to be removed.
On the one hand,
there are several reasons as to why some groups of individuals maintain that old
buildings should give their space to new ones. Of all, the most prominent
reason would stem from the usefulness of a building. The main purpose of people
historically having constructed any forms of building is clear: buildings are
useful. In other words, they have provided a shelter for cold or heat since
long before. In this sense, historical buildings seem to no longer have any practical
benefits, which means that they are considered by people merely as useless structures
only to occupy the precious land that otherwise would have been used for better
purpose.
Nevertheless, I
suppose that they should not be abandoned just for the sake of their uselessness
in their original function. In fact, the claim of the people from the opposite
side is the result of their narrow vision when it comes to seeing the role of old
buildings. They are not just purposeless buildings but a country’s historical
and cultural heritage which defines its national identity. Old but significant buildings
have attained a symbol of their country by surviving tremendous amount of time.
This is important since this cultural heritage forms the international image of
one country and this image can play a vital role in tourism, attracting a huge
number of foreign tourists across the world. In short, historical buildings help
increase the demands of foreign tourists who want to travel the country.
In conclusion, whereas
some people contend that old buildings are unnecessary, I opine that they are
important due to their impact on the image of a country and its tourism. |
