Your Answer ▼ There is a disagreement regarding the issue of working a part-time job as a college student. Even though there are people who think that having a part-time job while in school is advantageous, I personally believe that doing so is negative to college students. On the one hand, students work a part-time job to get social experiences before they graduate. This type of experience can be beneficial to college students as it provides them with the place to learn how to deal with problems in the workplace, earning money at the same time. And also it is well known that most companies prefer to recruit people who have social experience before. This is illustrated by the poll carried out on several recruitment departments in Korea, overwhelming 85 percent of respondents said that they want people who already has worked in other place. On the other hand, part-time job can act as a double-edged sword in terms of deterring students form concentrating solely on academic development. It is apparent that college students have a lot of intensive academic subjects and a massive amount of assignments to do these days. However, when they have to go to work after school, which is not really related to their major, they cannot study as much as other students who don't have any part-time jobs. This can lead to receiving low marks in classes, then they will reconsider about whether continuing to work or not. In conclusion, having a part-time job as a student is a contentious topic because there are opinions that support and oppose this idea. However, I personally think that it is not beneficial to college students due to the fact that they cannot concentrate on their main things to do as students. |
