Some families send their children to a foreign country to be educated. Discuss both the advantages and disadvantages of this course of action. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Many children study abroad by themselves or
with just one of their parents these days. There can be some disadvantages, but
I personally agree with the idea of studying in other countries.
One of the drawbacks of studying abroad is
that children may misbehave. Since kids are very lonely without family, they
may spend more time with bad friends and show delinquent behavior, and missing
parental guidance can lead to even bigger problems. Another problem is that
children can forget their home county and background. It may not be such a big
problem if one plans to live abroad for the entire life, but if a child plans
to come back to his/her homeland, missing out on experience and education from
home country may lead to maladjustment.
However, many advantages of studying abroad
make this idea so appealing. Firstly, children can learn a foreign language
naturally by going to school and talking to friends. Learning a foreign
language is extremely important in Korea, and many people spend so much time
and energy to achieve a high level. Children who study abroad can easily
complete this complicated life-time task for Koreans. Secondly, children can
have international experiences and have greater scopes and ideas. Since today's
world is becoming more globalized and closer, people with global experience can
have more chances. Lastly, children can have friends from different countries
around the world, and having global connections is helpful in various ways. I
have a personal experience of studying in Canada as an elementary school
student. I still talk and chat with some of my Canadian friends, and they help
me a lot on many occasions. For example, a friend of mine accompanied me to
Niagara fall when I traveled to Canada, and another friend helped me looking
for graduate school information in Toronto.
Although some disadvantages exist, I completely agree with children studying abroad. I would recommend this action to anyone who asks me.
