It is considered by some that libraries should save economically (이걸 대신 '예산' 등 명사를 넣어주세요!) by having more computers than books, while others think that there is nothing wrong with existing libraries. In my opinion, even though computers bring more value to libraries, I believe that it does not to existing users.
On the one hand, computer libraries can save money because it does not require a large area to stack books and workforce to manage around. This saved money can be used in the future to run the libraries for more years without financial crisis. In reality, many local libraries have moneytary problems. This is because local governments are not very willing to invest, so local libraries have to find a way to minimise expenses on their own. Turning to a computer library will be the surest way.
On the other hand, computer libraries and its technology cannot possibly be as the same user-friendly as book libraries. Like many other technologies, computers in the library might not be easy to use for many elderly people. Especially for local libraries, most regular visitors are not only young people, but also old people. The reason to change should be for existing users, not for future users. Otherwise it can be said that it is also a waste of time and resources for them. Thus, it is okay not to make new changes.
In conclusion, modern libraries with new computers can be good or can be not. I agree that it is okay to live with book libraries without computers. This is because not everyone welcomes changes of the library, especially when they already have enough reasons to go to the library. |
