The pie charts compare the proportion of people falling into three distinct age groups in Yemen and Italy in two different years. At first glance, it is clear that Italy had the older population in the year 2000, and the same is predicted in 2050. The population of both countries are expected to age over the fifty-year period. Firstly, in Yemen, the population aged 0-14 years old accounted for the half of total populations in 2000, while the same age group in Italy took up the least percentage (14.3%) in the year. After a half century, in contrast, prediction about that status illustrates significant alteration in the dominance of age groups. The number of people over 15 is predicted to increase and become dominant, accounting for more and less 65 percent. On the other hand, the population aged between 15 to 59 in Italy occupied the largest proportion with over two third of total in 2000 and the elderly people over 60 took up the second largest percentage. It accounted for a quarter, which was more than 8 times the figure of the same age group in Yemen (3.6%). The proportion of the old is forecasted to double in 2050 and the gap between the middle ages and the old is expected to become considerably narrow with negligible 4%.
