Some argue that overseas tourists should be charged more than local residents for visiting cultural and historical attractions. I agree with this opinion, since local people pay their tax for maintenance of those sites, however the difference between fees should not be intense.
On the one hand, it is rational that foreign tourists should pay more for visiting cultural and historical sites than local residents due to the tax paid by local people. These local people spend some of their wages on maintaining those attractions on a regular basis even though they would not visit there at all. Also, they should continually pay these taxes as long as they live in the local area. The taxes can ensure that the sites are managed, staffed properly and even improved. In contrast, overseas tourists, in many cases, simply come to these spots to enjoy their time with well managed sites. Thus, local people should be given a reasonable concession on the entry fee to museums and other historical places.
On the other hand, the difference between the fees should not be significant. Firstly, local people, in other aspect, enjoy the profits, which are earned from overseas tourists entrance fee. These profits, in some way, should be spent on the development of local areas as well as improving local residents’ standard of living. Secondly, money collected from foreign tourists in terms of admission fee also means this type of visitors contribute to management of these sites, thus they also have the right to enjoy these spots at reasonable prices.
In conclusion, as local residents contribute to the maintenance of historical attractions by paying taxes to the government, I agree that foreign visitors should pay more than local visitors. However, the differences between fees should not be intense, since overseas tourists also contritube to maintainence of those sites and local area's developemt.
