In recent years, there is a controversial issue regarding
the impacts of video games. Some people focus on the demerits of them, while others think that they are not harmful for people. Although both opinions are
reasonable, I believe that the disadvantages prevail over the advantages.
People who want to highlight the positive aspects of video
games take note of the educational and relaxing functions of them. To begin
with, several video games may be useful for students to study a foreign
languague. For example, Mabuchanjamoon, one of the popular video games in South
Korea, is a widespread educational tool for children to easily memorize Chinese
words, with them completing some missions while playing this game. From this
enjoyable experience, they can be quickly familar with the contents hard to
study. In addition, students can easily deal with their stress in a short time
while playing video games, getting away from their boring daily routines.
However, I think that the drawback of them far outweigh the
benefits for violence and addiction issues. Firstly, people can become more
violent, performing the roles of virtual charcter who physically beats enemies
in the fake world. If players lose their sense of reality by spending too much
time on the games, they may make them ignore the laws and rules related to physical violence in reality. Moreover, people can become much addicted to the
games, providing them with opportunities to escape from the real world, since
the virtual world does not require the efforts to consistently improve their
abilities and skills. Thus, some people cannot adapt to real life because they
got used to living in the virtual world constructed by the video games.
In conclusion, even though the video games may have positive
influences on children's life, I argue that the disadvantages outbalance the
advantages, as players can be violent and reluctant to be in the real world. |
