In recent years, many young people have left their hometown and parents, and as a result, more old people are staying in the countryside distant from their family. Two major problems for this change are threats to their human rights and physical health. It is worrisome, but there are solutions can be adopted to make the situation better.
Staying in a country town culturally isolates old people, and this may lead them exposed to modern crimes. They are not much familiar with recent ways of crime. Some frauds from outside of the town may use this weakness and try to take some money away illegally. This is a common threat today in remote areas. There are already many victims, but only a few could get help from the society when they needed.
However, more and more organisations are now working to protect weak and old people from potential threats in a practical way. They form well structured teams of real field experts of human rights. They hire different people from different fields depending on the cases at hand. Some jobs are temporary, and some are not. (사실 크게 중요한 문장은 아닙니다.) Their job is mostly to advise people differently to get a proper help before and after threats. In this way, they have helped people more quickly and effectively.
Physical well-being of old parents can also suffer because they tend to overwork when they are alone. There are always things to do when seasons come and go. If there is heavy rain, they might have to fix the roof, even though other family members are not in the house with them. Actually, they need help every time they are in this kind (왜 this kind 로 적으셨는지는 알겠는데, 개인적으로는 위의 always things 쪽에 맞춰 these kinds 가 낫지 않았나 싶네요. 물론 여기는 글을 작성한 사람의 의도가 더 중요하게 들어가기에 dhll님의 표현이 맞을 겁니다.) of situations because some houseworks are dangerous to do by themselves.
Some physical problems of old people can be solved by young people. For many years, local governments have encouraged young volunteers to make annual visits to where old and low population lives. This generally happens in a short period of time. They act together according to the pre-planned schedule and directly go to old people’s places, especially where help from more number of people is needed. They repeat this travelling from town to town.
In conclusion, isolated old people in this generation need support from more people to improve their life. If the government gets a chance to prioritise this problem as soon as possible, old people will be able to enjoy their country life. |
