Q Many countries aim to improve their living
standard by economic development, but some important social values are lost as
a result. Do you think the advantages of economic development outweigh the
disadvantages?
Recently, the interest in economic
development has become the subject of heated debate. Some people assert that
economical growth is significant to improve their living standard even if
other social values are dropped, while others argue otherwise. I wholeheartedly
agree with the former stand. In the fallowing essay, both views will be
discussed before a conclusion is reached with my opinion.
On the one hand, those who claim that
economic evolution makes people to be unconcerned about social values do so for
several reasons. Proponents of this argument insist that there are amount of
important worth that cannot deal with advanced economy. In addition, children
are deprived companies of their time to spend with their parents. As a result,
communication between families disappear and children are more likely to be in
danger because of less attention from adults.
In my opinion, however, is that economic
growth is helpful to rise people’s life quality. Perhaps the most compelling
reason is that economy is connected with public health, education or
employment. In other words, improved health care affects people’s life
expectancy by advanced treatment technology and also, development in schooling
allows students to get more satisfaction in study or provides better job
opportunity. Another reason is other social values also depend on financial
state. In fact, some research carried out by some experts have revealed that
social worth was effectively preserved where the level of economic growth was
higher. In light of the above, I find this is more persuasive.
In conclusion, it is undeniable that there
are a variety of opinions about the topic. However, after considering this
matter in a careful manner, I fully support the view that benefits of economic
development outweigh the disadvantages.
