▶ Your Answer :
People in modern
society tend to regard university as just a training institution for student’s
employment. I strongly disagree with this trend because its origin and initial
purpose are to make wider benefits for citizens and community. In this essay, I
will discuss the close relationship between university education and social
desire and then, I will elucidate that university has the higher aim for
society and individuals.
As can be seen in
history of college, most universities are built to satisfy social demands, for
instance, Harvard University was founded because puritans immigrating to
American continent realized the need to nurture outstanding people to sustain
and develop their new society. Accordingly, universities have educated to bring
up students as talent suitable for the society and to improve the academics necessary
for the development of community. It means that educational goal of university
cannot be confined to individual training for job and should be the
contribution to society. In addition, universities have been relying mainly on
financial support from government. Therefore, they have modified their ideas
and academic request in accordance with national policy. In other words, university’s
education has devoted to national interests.
University is also
the place that the spirit of resistance lives vividly. In 1968, France
universities demonstrated against irrational authority and suppression to help
the poor and the weak. In South Korea, university students and professors
announced the urgent declaration against their government that adopted
friendly-conglomerate policy and ostracized workers and small enterprises. University
has been trying to make better society that weak people can enjoy rights and
life, and taught people with actual practices to change unreasonable reality.
In conclusion,
university has existed to meet social need and to construct brighter world. Consequently,
the object of education is more noble and sublime than exercise for good occupation. Thus, people should not consider
university as an establishment for job applicants because the education has
dedicated greatly to the progress of society and eradicating corruptions
pervasive in country.
