This graph demonstrates how the pattern of meat consumption in Spain had changed from 2001 to 2011 among six sorts of meats. At first glance, the cases of beef and chicken seem to show the most dramatic fluctuations. Specifically, prior to 2005, beef took up the first place reaching around 700 grams (per person per week). In particular, the figure of beef out surpasses the total of goat, veal, and pork in 2001. However, there was a steady and significant decrease in beef consumption from that time until 2007 (reaching less than 400 grams). Due to the decline, the first place was changed by chicken in 2005. On the other hand, in the case of chicken, this consumption was started from the third in 2001 (recording about 450 grams), which was just under the duck consumption. After this point, both chicken and duck indicated the opposite trend. In other words, while the demand of duck dropped sharply from the second level in 2001 to the fourth in 2011, the chicken recorded the first place, showing the twice gap with the pork consumption in 2011. |
