Given the rapid development of science, learning from the internet at the university will be much more regarded as a prevalent education system. In this context, there could be debates about positive and negative aspects, respectively. First of all, some people argue that university lecture using the internet has a lot of advantages. This is because the internet is intrinsically beyond physical limitations represented by ‘time’, ‘distance’, and so on. Specifically, if there is a computer or laptop equipped with the internet, one student could learn any lectures regardless of time and distance. These days, TED and MOOK are the cases in point. I also use these education platforms. If there is no the development of science, how can I watch and learn these foreigner’s lectures? However, despite this outstanding development, this system can not outweigh the advantage of face-to-face lecture. In other words, internet lecture is just a supplement for the existing lecture system rather than a replacement. Fundamentally, education is based on the interaction. Because the development of academic knowledge is constructed and improved by a variety of people, not just one outstanding person. It implies that discussion with colleagues and professor is an essential prerequisite for university lecture. In retrospect my last university life, my learning is stemmed from the interaction with others with respect to a theme such as ‘war’ and ‘peace’. In conclusion, even if I could understand the convenience and utility of the internet in the field of university lecture, it can not outweigh the face-to-face lecture with colleagues and professor in the classroom. Consequently, I argue that online teaching is one of the good supplement for deepening and promoting the quality of education in the classroom. |
