Some people believe that we cannot learn anything from the past for our life today, while others believe that history is a valuable source of information to understand human's life. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
It is a common belief that history does not deliver important message anymore. However, there is a more persuasive argument that we can still learn an important lesson from the past. In this essay, I will discuss both sides and present my opinion.
On the one hand, it is understandable that modern society is a lot different from the past. Therefore, the lesson which we could gain from history can not be applied in every situation. Since we are living in a fast-changing world, along with the advanced technology, many people say learning a practical subject, such as computer-related skills, will help students’ career in the future. Most of the job markets expect the pragmatic performance from their employee, for this reason, a majority of people believe that schools should focus more on those skills.
Nevertheless, I support the idea that we have to cherish the history of one’s own culture, along with the other’s culture and heritage. History includes numerous invaluable information. In other words, by understanding the history of someone, one can thoroughly know the person. It can represent one’s root and identity. Moreover, one can feel the patriotic spirit by understanding the history of the country. In addition, I believe that by monitoring antecedent events is pivotal because we could learn by the past incident and prevent a possible accident.
To sum up, while it is apparent that, in contemporary society, history seems no longer important. People tend to think practical skills are more valuable rather than learning old stories. However, I firmly believe the lessons from history holds significant meaning nowadays, such as one’s identity and respect towards own country.
