Some people think it is more important to spend money on roads and motorways than on public transport. To what extend do you agree or disagree with this statement?
There are fierce disagreements about the idea that government should spend money on roads and motorways rather than public transportation. Even though it has well-founded reasons, I disagree with the statement. I firmly believe the government should focus more on public transportation since it is a more eco-friendly solution.
To begin with, these days, more and more people are driving their own cars because of the many reasons, but mostly convenience. However, the problem is each car emits a considerable amount of CO2. That is why the government should spend money on better public transportation infrastructure and services. Compared to driving own cars, using transportation, such as bus and subway, is more beneficial to our natural environment. If the government promote the awareness of using transportation, along with some practical solution, public transit use will rise.
Moreover, in many urban areas, traffic congestion is a major issue. Especially, during the rush hours, such as early morning and around 6 pm, a majority of people have experienced traffic jam. Some might have to stick on the road for hours regardless of distance. For the solution to this, the government have to limit the number of cars on the road, which means more people have to use public transportation. Focusing more on improving the system, such as making more bus lane, discount on the fee, traffic congestion is going to be alleviated.
To conclude, even though many people believe it is better to invest more on roads, I disagree with the idea. In my perspective, it is more persuasive by spending government money on public transportation, since it is beneficial for our environment and also resolves traffic congestion.
