People have different opinions on whether or not granting certification from cyber learning is beneficial for undergraduates. Although opponents assert e-learning helps people gain knowledge easily and conveniently, others believe that conventional education has more benefits to students than distance learning. In this essay, I will outline merits and demerits of both teaching methods..
On the one hand, many students prefer taking classes using the Internet because of its conveniency and time-efficiency. Apparently, as university lecturers are able to put their lectures on the Internet, students would spend less time and money on commuting at school. Besides, it provides people with equal educational opportunities as well as flexibility. For example, online study is ideal for working students or single parents who need a flexible schedule. In this sense, if people have a computer, no matter how far away they reside, students can choose academic courses according to their preference.
On the other hand, many experts are seriously concerned about reducing the importance of face-to-face learning. First of all, traditional way of learning is vital, since it can make students more sociable. Undergraduates can learn how to interact and cooperate with others, as they would acquire social norms and manners in the class. Secondly, teachers can give exact information and knowledge to students promptly. There is lots of unreliable information on the Internet, so students are more likely to gain misknowledge. Lastly, students cannot be evaluated with proper measurements, as teachers cannot supervise them. As a result of this, educators might not identify either students who have a great potential or lag behind peers.
In conclusion, although distance learning is highly valuable as saving time and money, face-to-face learning is more desirable for undergraduates in terms of socialization and attaining genuine knowledge. Thus, I am sure the benefits of classroom teaching outweigh its drawbacks.
