As the society has become increasingly
informative and developed in a telecommunication, a lot of books and documents
are getting computerized. That is why some people argue that libraries are not
needed any more and books and newspapers will disappear due to the computerization.
However, I believe that libraries have to remain in our lives and humankind
should regard it as a very crucial part of our culture.
To begin with, my personal view is even
though that maybe change the way of saving documents and files such as books
and newspapers, it will not be disappeared in our lives. There are several
reasons that advocate my arguments. First of all, the library is the place
which provides the personal interaction with acquisition of knowledge, not the
mere storage. To illustrate, for ages, human being has used it as place to
exchange their knowledge each other and spread it to their descendant and been
as a human legacy.
Secondly, it has enormously vital role to documentarize
books and newspapers itself. Many experts who are involved in IT argue that the
memory period of computer is mortal. To suppose this, if human race merely rely
on computer device to save files and documents, those will probably be completely
deleted and it will lose the function for people to interact with acquisition of
knowledge due to absence of documents. On the other side, the print is more
immortal to save the documents than computer memory. Thus, in order to keep the
prestigious documents, the prints such as books and newspapers are more useful.
To conclude, I believe that not all study
will be computerized and the library will still remain as important part of our
cultural legacy, even though the computerization will bring us convenience in searching
documents or data.
