Some people think muesums should be enjoyable places to attract and entertain people. Others think the pursose of museums is educate, not entertain.
It is widely believed that museums should be interesting places to attract and entertain people. But in fact, it has been a controversial issue whether the aim of museums is to entertain. Some may argue that museums should be places for educating people education, saying that it is the optimal existing value of museums. I believe, however, that it is more desirable and closer to the existing value for museums to provide attraction and entertainment to people for following two reasons.
Most conspicuously, attractions and entertainments at museums would make it possible for people to feel and learn things more from exhibitions such as paintings and statues. To put it again, if museums do not express impressive or funny one, visitors are readily fed up with boring stuff at museums and leave them early. In this case, it is over-optimistic for those people to visit there again. So catching people’s eyes is a pretty urgent matter in museums. To take one example of such principle, Irish Royal Museum sponsored by Goldman Sachs changed into offering highlighted and sparkling exhibitions such as B Park Nam June, a worldwide video artist. After it, the museum reported tremendous increase in visiting rates by 40 percent! For last three years. Had it been stuck with education programs, the museums might not attract people. So, the primary purpose of museums should be enjoyable places for people.
In addition, fun functions otherwise would be more helpful in educating people. In other words, fun functions have full power to attract people with no interest in museums. This is absolutely influential to manage museums continuously. According to a survey conducted by Gallop Internationals last year, compared with museums which provided no visual promotions for such people, museums which provided a variety of promotions such as painting auctions show greater interest from people with no interest in museums. This means visual and thrilling attractions to appeal to even people with no interest in museums is second to none with fun functions.
All things considered, although the given topic is not a black-and-white issue, I strongly side with the fact that museums more focus on attracting and entertaining people.
